Hunedoara Castle is the biggest and the most imposing of the Transylvania's castles. Matei Corvin, the king of Hungary and Transylvania (between 1440 - 1526 and 1867 - 1918 Transylvania was part of Hungary) sent Vlad the Impaler to Hunyad Castle in prison. Vlad Dracula stayed imprisoned in that castle from 1462 till 1469. After he was found not guilty, Dracula received the King sister as wife and he returned to Wallachia and become king again in 1476.

Bran Castle - Vlad also took residence in Bran Castle, a fortress built in 1235 by Teutonic Knights near Brasov (saxonic town named Corona or Kronstadt at that time).

Vlad Dracula used it as a base when he and his army was in Transylvania. Bran Castle is on the border of Wallachia and Transylvania. Bran Castle was a temporary residence of Lord Dracula, his own castle being Poenari Castle. Vlad Tepes built the north-west tower of Bran Castle to defend against Habsburgic and Hungarian army. Bran Castle was a residence of Romanian Royal Family. In 1889, King Carol I restored the castle.

This castle is well known as Dracula Castle.

Poenari Castle - Dracula Castle is located in Peonari, somewhere in central Romania. Unfortunately (for Castlevania fans), it is now in ruins from years of neglect, only a symbol of a man who once instilled fear in foes while being heralded as a hero. The Romanian government doesn't have yet money to restore the castle. The castle ruins can be visited by Dracula fans, an unforgettable experience into Transylvanian Alps.
