14 th Century
Gothic castle. Hunedoara Corvinesti Castle is evocative, with
three huge pointed towers, a drawbridge and high battlements.
Five marble columns with delicate ribbed vaults support two halls
(built in 1453), the Diet Hall above the Knight's Hall below.
The castle wall was hewn out of 30 m of solid rock by Turkish
prisoners.
The
fortress was extensively restored by Iancu de Hunedoara from 1452
onwards. The castle was restored in 1952; a handful of its 50
rooms today houses a feudal art museum.
The visitor is impressed by the massiveness of the building.
Rasnov
Citadel (1350)

Rasnov-Citadel,
built in 1350 is on on the hill peak near the road Bran to Poiana
Brasov is just 15 km away from Bran and it was the defence citadel
for Bran residence.
It is the most dramatic castle in Transylvania.
Bran
Castle (1212)

Bran Castle, known as Dracula Castle
was built by Teutonic Knights in 1212. Vlad Dracula made this
castle his residence during his stay in Transylvania.
Biertan
Citadel (1240)

Biertan
Citadel and Fortified Church. Biertan Cathedral was fortified
by the saxon inhabitants of the village in 1240 against the Turks
invasions.
Fagaras
Citadel (15th Century)

Situated between Brasov and Sibiu, into Transylvanian Alps, Fagaras
Castle was used to defend Transylvania against turks.
Poenari
Castle (15th Century)

Situated near Pitesti, into Transylvanian Alps, Poenari Castle
is the castle were Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) had his residence.
The ruins of the castle (see photo) can be visited on the top
of 99 stairs. The castle was built to defend Wallachia against
turks.
